Luis Almeida graduated in Electronics and Telecommunications Eng. in 1988 and received a Ph.D. in Electrical Eng. in 1999, both from the University of Aveiro in Portugal. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of the University of Porto (UP), Portugal, and a member of the Telecommunications Institute at UP where he coordinates the Networked Systems group. Among several appointments, he was a member of the IEEE Technical Committees on Real-Time Systems (2008-2013) and on Factory Automation (2007-2009, 2014-), Program and General Chair of the IEEE Real-Time Systems Symposium (2011-2012 respectively), Vice-President (2011-2013) and Trustee (2008-2016) of the RoboCup Federation, and Associate Editor of the Springer Journal of Real-Time Systems (2010-) and Elsevier Journal of Systems Architecture (2012-). His research interests include those related to real-time communications for distributed industrial/embedded systems including teams of cooperating agents.

Jian-Jia Chen is a Professor in the Department of Informatics in TU Dortmund University in Germany. He was a Juniorprofessor in the Department of Informatics in Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany from May 2010 to March 2014. He received his Ph.D. degree from Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, National Taiwan University, Taiwan in 2006. He received his B.S. degree from the Department of Chemistry at National Taiwan University 2001. Between Jan. 2008 and April 2010, he was a postdoc researcher in ETH Zurich, Switzerland. His research interests include real-time systems, embedded systems, energy-efficient scheduling, power-aware designs, temperature-aware scheduling, and distributed computing.

Thomas Nolte was awarded a B.Eng., M.Sc., Licentiate, and Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering from Mälardalen University (MDH), Västerås, Sweden, in 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2006, respectively. He has been a Visiting Researcher at University of California, Irvine (UCI), Los Angeles, USA, in 2002, and a Visiting Researcher at University of Catania, Italy, in 2005. He has been a Postdoctoral Researcher at University of Catania in 2006, and at MDH in 2006-2007. Thomas Nolte became an Assistant Professor at MDH in 2008, and Associate Professor at MDH in 2009. 2012 he became Full Professor of Computer Science.
